Taren Point Wetlands

Commissioned by Sutherland Shire Council

Situated on the southern shores of Botany Bay, Taren Point Wetlands connects an extensive stretch of Grey Mangroves with a large patch of rehabilitated Salt Marsh. Both habitats skirt a large intertidal mud flat which is frequented by a diverse range of migratory, nomadic and sedentary shorebird species. Part of the Salt Marsh rehabilitation included the construction of an offshore roost for migratory shorebirds, a birdwatching hide and a number of interpretive and compliance signs.

The signs will be commissioned in a number of stages, as funds for the project are released.

I was requested to begin with two signs: One which gave an overview of Shorebird migration: “Birds without borders” and a second sign, “Shorebird Identification”, which assisted with identification of the shorebird species which are commonly found at that location.

The signs were designed to be printed using a laser etching process and to fit into a council designed border template with the sign title, council logo and sponsor logos on the border area.
